“Ultimate user experience” at Carnegie Library thanks to SentryGlas® Expressions™

SentryGlas® Expressions™ decorative laminated glass had added vitality and radiance to the Main Branch at the Carnegie Library in Pittsburgh (PA) USA, inaugurated in October 2003. DuPont’s decorative glass technology features prominently in the design of the library’s windows, walkways and stairs.

Design elements include illustrative images of globes embedded within the decorative laminated glass to create an effect of openness and space, while dividing the computer lab from areas of study.

Pittsburgh’s Edge Studio selected SentryGlas? Expressions™ for this design project. Principal architect at Edge Studios, Gary Carlough, said: “SentryGlas® Expressions™ was essential in achieving the ultimate user experience at the Carnegie Library’s Main Branch. Architecturally, it allowed us to integrate graphics that would entice the user to explore all areas of the library and go deeper towards the discovery of research. SentryGlas® Expressions™ is also very useful for way finding; its use helped us to direct people more clearly, while also creating serendipitous areas of the library." Dlubak Corp. of Blairsville, Pennsylvannia (USA) laminated the decorative panels.

The Carnegie Library renovations projects were unveiled at the grand opening of the library’s Main Branch facility, one of 18 city-based library branches under the umbrella of the Carnegie Library system.
